Busy

BanKnow the weekends where you are so busy that you are in bed the second you're home, partly because you're tired and partly because you got yourself into this mess, so you can't complain?  That's my weekend.

It kicked off with the Northern Ontario All-Star band, a group of high school musicians who were nominated and selected for an intensive band bootcamp, ending in a concert for friends and families.  I really liked this concert because it featured all Canadian composers, and we even had some videos of the composers explaining the songs.  This made the concert especially enjoyable and my family members all seemed to enjoy it.  When one attends a concert involving more dedicated, serious musicians, you feel not only the music, but the confidence radiate from the students playing the song.  When the audience gave their final applause, that's a major part of what they were responding to.

Another thing to be known about All-Star band:  It eats your time.  I was given the music a week before and when I was unable to practice, I was flipping through it all.  Then you have the 3 hour band practice on Thursday, the 11 hour band practice Friday and the 4 hour and concert on Saturday.  Cue exhausted bed jumping.

Now for the knitting:  I went to a knitting circle at Starbucks after practice on Friday and really enjoyed myself.  For work reasons, I probably won't be able to go all that often, no matter how much I'd like to go back.  I heard hilarious stories from Andrea (I know! Another one!), despite them not necessarily being of a funny nature.  I saw beautiful knitting and spinning projects, and then I stood outside knitting when we were kicked out (it has to close, after all) with a good friend, Marley.

I also knit during every free moment at the rehearsals.  A ten minute break and my needles were out.  When you wear yourself out like that, you have to make up for it somehow.  Knitting proved to be my saviour through the long rehearsals, and I will always say that if I didn't have something to put my stress into during All-Star band, I would not have learned the songs half as well.

On another note, I cast on my first sweater in Berocco Vintage worsted weight weight.  It is a modified pattern based on the oatmeal sweater worn by Watson in the BBC series Sherlock.  I am half-finished the body, and am so thrilled I found an inexpensive, cushy, machine-washable yarn to knit it in, and if the fates have it, it shall be knit in much less than the predicted 2000 yards (however, that was for the DK weight pattern, and I am knitting from the Aran.  hmmm.)  More news on that to come.

If my hands could take a breath at the end of this diatribe, they would.

Welcome!

I hope that all of you know me, or will soon.  I am Andrea, or Bubbles, and I love to knit.  I will be making patterns available for you soon, such as a free child's hat entitled barnowl.  It's a little welcoming present, I guess.

You can still see all of my older blog posts at www.stringheralong.blogspot.com, however, all new posts will be published here and will be much more frequent.

As this is all I have time for right now, I will update you some time this weekend.
